Tasting Notes: The color is deep garnet with purple undertones. Aromas of violets, cherry, blackberry, cassis, smoke, citrus, cocoa, spices, and vanilla spill out of the glass. The wine is silky and lush with flavors of cherries, cassis, blackberry, raspberry, violets, vanilla, and toasty oak. The finish has nice length and is redolent of bright dark cherry, caramel, violets, and citrus. The wine is beautifully balanced. Technical Notes: 5.3 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon was crushed between
September 25 and October 18, 2002. The body of the wine is formed from 2.6
tons of old vine fruit from the Lincoln Ranch in Oakville and 1.5 tons from the
Krupp Home Ranch in Soda Canyon. Accent notes were added by 1.0 ton of
fruit from a beautiful old vineyard on Zinfandel Lane and some Clone 337 from
the Bunnell Family Vineyard on Atlas Peak Road. All of the fruit came from
beautifully farmed, properly cropped, balanced vines. It was fermented in small
open topped fermentors and punched down by hand. The wine underwent
malolactic fermentation in the barrels to enhance mouthfeel. It was aged 23
months in French oak barrels, one third of which were new. Bottling occurred on
September 8, 2004. |
