2003 Nicolette Christopher Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes: The color is deep garnet with purple undertones. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, cassis, gunpowder, truffles, olives, earth, and a touch of Rutherford dust spill out of the glass. The wine is silky and lush with flavors of Montmorency cherries, cassis, blackberry, raspberry, cola, truffles, and cocoa powder. The finish has nice length and the wine is beautifully balanced.

Technical Notes: 5.7 tons of Cabernet Sauvignon was crushed between September 16 and October 13, 2003. The body of the wine is formed from 1.9 tons of old vine fruit from the Lincoln Ranch in Oakville and 2 tons from the Beckstoffer L4 block in Rutherford. Accent notes were added by 1.4 tons of fruit from the Dr. Crane vineyard in St. Helena and some Clone 337 from the Bunnell Family Vineyard on Atlas Peak Road. All of the fruit came from beautifully farmed, properly cropped, balanced vines. It was fermented in small open topped fermentors and punched down by hand. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in the barrels to enhance mouthfeel. It was aged 21 months in French oak barrels, one third of which were new. Bottling occurred on August 11, 2005, only 330 cases were produced.
